class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>El mercurio (Hg) es un elemento natural que se encuentra en la corteza terrestre. El mercurio elemental es un metal plateado, brillante y l\u00edquido a temperatura ambiente, es de alta densidad y toxicidad por lo que es considerado un metal pesado y una neurotoxina. El ser humano ha extra\u00eddo el mercurio de las minas para diferentes usos como instrumentos de medici\u00f3n, amalgamas dentales, luminarias, industria cloro-\u00e1lcali, esto ha dado lugar a su liberaci\u00f3n en el ambiente y consecuentemente, a la exposici\u00f3n de los organismos vivos a diferentes niveles de toxicidad.\u00a0<\/p><p>La toxicidad del mercurio depende de su forma qu\u00edmica, su concentraci\u00f3n y la duraci\u00f3n de la exposici\u00f3n a esta sustancia. El mercurio elemental es el menos t\u00f3xico, mientras que las formas org\u00e1nicas, como el metilmercurio (CH\u2083Hg\u207a) y el dimetilmercurio ((CH\u2083)\u2082Hg), son las m\u00e1s t\u00f3xicas. El metilmercurio, en particular, ha causado los mayores da\u00f1os ecol\u00f3gicos y a la salud humana, siendo reconocido como un problema global. En los seres humanos, la exposici\u00f3n al mercurio afecta el tracto gastrointestinal, el sistema respiratorio y los ri\u00f1ones; al menos el 95 % del metilmercurio ingerido se absorbe en el tracto gastrointestinal, que constituye la principal v\u00eda de ingreso en el organismo.<\/p><p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-118461\" src=\"https:\/\/www.unan.edu.ni\/wp-content\/uploads\/IMG_0963-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1080\" height=\"576\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.unan.edu.ni\/wp-content\/uploads\/IMG_0963-1.jpg 1080w, https:\/\/www.unan.edu.ni\/wp-content\/uploads\/IMG_0963-1-300x160.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.unan.edu.ni\/wp-content\/uploads\/IMG_0963-1-1024x546.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.unan.edu.ni\/wp-content\/uploads\/IMG_0963-1-768x410.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1080px) 100vw, 1080px\" \/><\/p><p>Por otra parte, el metilmercurio tiene la capacidad de acumularse en los seres vivos (bioacumularse) y de aumentar exponencialmente su concentraci\u00f3n (biomagnificarse) en la cadena tr\u00f3fica, lo cual aumenta el riesgo para los seres vivos. Debido a estas caracter\u00edsticas, es necesario su monitoreo global y permanente en los recursos hidrobiol\u00f3gicos para proteger los ecosistemas y la salud humana.<\/p><p>El caso m\u00e1s conocido sobre los efectos negativos del metilmercurio ocurri\u00f3 en la d\u00e9cada de los 1950 en Minamata, Jap\u00f3n, donde personas se intoxicaron por el consumo de pescado contaminado con concentraciones de metilmercurio superiores a los 6 mg por kg de pescado. Otro caso de intoxicaci\u00f3n de relevancia mundial fue el ocurrido en Irak entre 1971 y 1972, donde cientos de iraqu\u00edes murieron tras ingerir pan que conten\u00eda una concentraci\u00f3n media de 9 mg de mercurio org\u00e1nico\/kg. Estos eventos dieron lugar a un creciente n\u00famero de investigaciones cient\u00edficas sobre la exposici\u00f3n al mercurio, lo que alert\u00f3 al mundo sobre las consecuencias irreversibles del potencial t\u00f3xico de este elemento y la necesidad de coordinar acciones globales de protecci\u00f3n.\u00a0<\/p><p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-118463\" src=\"https:\/\/www.unan.edu.ni\/wp-content\/uploads\/IMG_1119.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1080\" height=\"576\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.unan.edu.ni\/wp-content\/uploads\/IMG_1119.jpg 1080w, https:\/\/www.unan.edu.ni\/wp-content\/uploads\/IMG_1119-300x160.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.unan.edu.ni\/wp-content\/uploads\/IMG_1119-1024x546.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.unan.edu.ni\/wp-content\/uploads\/IMG_1119-768x410.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1080px) 100vw, 1080px\" \/><\/p><p>El Convenio de Minamata sobre el Mercurio es un tratado mundial que busca proteger la salud humana y el medio ambiente de los efectos adversos del mercurio, entr\u00f3 en vigor en 2017 y ha sido ratificado por 152 pa\u00edses, incluyendo Nicaragua. Los gobiernos que son parte de este convenio se han comprometido a aplicar medidas de control del suministro y comercio del mercurio, productos que lo contengan y procesos que lo utilicen, supervisi\u00f3n de la Miner\u00eda Artesanal y de Peque\u00f1a Escala del oro (MAPE), donde se usa el mercurio, reducci\u00f3n de las emisiones y liberaci\u00f3n del mercurio, almacenamiento ambientalmente racional del metal y sus desechos, inventario de fuentes y sitios contaminados.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p><p>El Convenio tambi\u00e9n articula la necesidad de desarrollar capacidades para evaluar sitios contaminados, identificar poblaciones en situaci\u00f3n de riesgo, evaluar y reducir los riesgos para la salud humana y el medioambiente.<\/p><p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-118464\" src=\"https:\/\/www.unan.edu.ni\/wp-content\/uploads\/IMG_0929.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1080\" height=\"576\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.unan.edu.ni\/wp-content\/uploads\/IMG_0929.jpg 1080w, https:\/\/www.unan.edu.ni\/wp-content\/uploads\/IMG_0929-300x160.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.unan.edu.ni\/wp-content\/uploads\/IMG_0929-1024x546.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.unan.edu.ni\/wp-content\/uploads\/IMG_0929-768x410.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1080px) 100vw, 1080px\" \/><\/p><p>El Gobierno de Reconciliaci\u00f3n y Unidad Nacional (GRUN), desde el 2014, ha venido implementando acciones para el cumplimiento del Convenio de Minamata. En este contexto, la UNAN-Managua, a trav\u00e9s del Centro para la Investigaci\u00f3n de Recursos Acu\u00e1ticos (CIRA) ha aportado a este cumplimiento mediante el desarrollo de investigaciones aplicadas y el fortalecimiento de capacidades anal\u00edticas en Centroam\u00e9rica y el Caribe.<\/p><p>De igual manera, UNAN-Managua\/CIRA contin\u00faa fortaleciendo sus capacidades cient\u00edfico-t\u00e9cnicas para detectar y entender la movilizaci\u00f3n de mercurio en los ecosistemas y seres vivos, para seguir contribuyendo a los compromisos de nuestro pa\u00eds con la protecci\u00f3n\u00a0 medioambiental y la salud humana.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-3c2da7ae
